The KCOM Stadium has been the flagship stadium of Hull and East Yorkshire since it was built in 2002. Costing around £44million it is owned by Hull City Council and managed by SuperStadium Management Company (SMC).

With a seating capacity of 25,586 it hosts home games for Hull City Football Club, welcoming visitors from around the UK for Premiership matches and First Utility Super League home games of Hull FC Rugby League Football Club.

The Stadium is also a venue for music concerts attracting international performers and with Hull UK City of Culture celebrations just a couple of months away,  SMC has upgraded the access control system with state-of-the-art technology for its card and ticket readers on the turnstiles around the whole stadium.

Stead Engineering was commissioned to design, manufacture and install the back plates and metal covers to house the card readers. The team at Stead Engineering produced several prototypes to ensure the finished product met the specification to protect the reader from damage and exposure to the elements at turnstiles both inside the main entrances and the outdoor turnstiles.

A spokesman for the SMC says:

“The new turnstiles have made a vast improvement to the turnstile entry system. It’s highly efficient and allows guests to the stadium to smoothly enter on match days and for other events.”

“When we contacted Stead Engineering, we had a vision of what we wanted and worked together their team to come up with a product which suited our requirements.”

“The turnstiles were already in place and required a safe housing to protect the reader technology inside.”

“The whole project took approximately 3 months for design and manufacture and one week to install. Any issues were quickly discussed between all parties and any alterations to the design and prototype efficiently undertaken.”

“Stead also worked with Precision Drilling to insert holes in the back plate and NEC Services installed the card readers and dealt with the electrics. These are all local companies and we are proud to work with them. Overall, we are really happy with the finished job, it takes a lot of pressure off when allowing thousands of people into our stadium.”
