The engineering industry needs 186,000 people with engineering skills to be recruited annually through to 2024.

Tomorrow’s Engineers Week (#TEWeek17), from 6-10 November 2017, aims to show how engineers are on a mission to make the world a better place.

The programme, led by the engineering community, provides a platform for employers to grow the talent pipeline as part of a collective drive.

The vision is to create a national network of employers working locally to reach one million young people every year with effective careers interventions.

Tomorrow’s Engineers brings a strategic approach to schools engagement, building links with industry and schools. This results in greater coordination so employer outreach extends to where the need and potential impact are greatest.

Nathan Stead, Managing Director from Stead Engineering says:

“This is a great initiative to create much needed engineers. By helping young people to connect their learning in school to real life careers helps to achieve this. Local businesses like ours need to engage much more with schools and colleges to help them understand exactly what we are looking for.”

“In addition to our current apprenticeship programme, we are providing work experience in all our departments to demonstrate the varied career options just within our business, not to mention the rest of the industry.”

Tomorrow’s Engineers shares good practice, encourages peer to peer advice and guidance and respects the distinct needs and approaches of individual companies, institutions and schools.

Stead Engineering is joining over 300 employers and professional bodies from across the engineering community as well as universities, schools and individuals in the week-long drive to inspire the next generation of engineers.
